Elk Photos from the 2001 hunt

Unusual elk hunt this year.  Almost every hunter had a chance at a bull, many of them at really big trophy bulls, and many of them came away empty.  We saw more big trophy bulls and had less to show for it than any elk hunt we can remember.  We still killed some good ones, but not near as many as we are used to killing.  That is actually better for the ones coming in 2002, as those bulls will be bigger next year.  Get a complete Success Report of every hunter we had at camp.
These pictures are listed in order of the hunter's arrival in camp.

Joe Sapien, CA (209)723-5386 Saw several good bulls, but too far.  On the 5th day killed a spike at 30 yards in its bed while sneaking an elk trail.  His first elk.  3 hour hike to pack that bull out.  Sparky guide.

John Gray, Jr and son John Gray III, CA (530)898-0232  Son John killed a big 5 point bull on the third day.  Ran it down in the timber.  Dad John had a fairly easy shot at a spike, but his firing pin froze up and didn’t fire.  He also missed some long shots at a couple of bulls and was within 2 seconds of killing a bull at 35 yards.  The bull turned and went just as he brought his gun up.  Could have shot it in the rear, but wisely chose not to.  “Sparky is a great guide!”  Click here to see full size.

Chris Mooney, NY (914)738-6098  Killed a 4 point bull at daylight on the first morning of his hunt.  “I arrived in the camp to find it one of the best equipped, most comfortable outfits I’ve seen in 2 decades of hunting.  I would highly recommend this outfit and would use it again readily.”  Tom guide.
