Deer Photos from the 1998 hunt

:  1998 success included 3 bucks larger than 30 inches, two 29 inches, three 28 inches, some great trophy bucks that were 27, plus some non-typical bucks including one with double drop tines.  In short, we are currently killing some GREAT bucks.  Come join us.  We have tremendous mule deer in our area.  We hunt them hard and kill some good ones.  It is rough country, steep and rugged.  Not for those with bad knees or weak hearts, very demanding physically. Horseback, but you still need to be in good shape.  Hunting this year was a little tough with warm dry weather.  Most of our bucks were killed on drives, as they were holed up in the cool timber.  Our heartbreaker of the season was when we made a drive, guide Tom pushed out a whopper 40 inch buck, cheaters and garbage all over it, big drop tine, and the buck went right exactly between two of our hunters.  If either of them had turned his head and looked to the side he would have seen it, but monster muleys bear a charmed life.  Tom yelled, “Kill that buck!”  One hunter stood up and looked, but at that time the buck must have been behind a bush as he never saw it.
These are the kills but click link to get a complete Success Report of every hunter we had at camp.

Brad Ingram, Redwood Valley, Ca (707)485-7403  Brad and Brett spotted a big buck 450 yards away.  While Brett covered it, Brad went running down the hill to get a closer shot.  Brad bumped into a whopper buck, which took off running, so Brad quickly sat down and shot the buck in the neck.  The buck he killed was 32 and a half inches, massive typical.

Brett Ingram, Ukiah, Ca (707)485-7783  When Brett heard Brad shoot his 32 incher, he thought he had shot at the big buck that was bedded, that Brett was covering.  Since the buck wasn’t hit, Brett shot at it, 460 yards, and killed it.  A truly tremendous typical buck, massive beams, high rack, spread of 26 inches.  Spread isn’t everything, as this buck was really a monster.

Steve Boero, San Carlos, Ca (650)593-7733  Steve was back again this year to get a “Boero Buck”, you know, 35 inches with cheater points all over it?  The last day of his hunt he covered miles of rough timberline rimrocks and dangerous cliffs in prime trophy muley country, on foot, only to kill a nice 25 inch non-typical buck within 1,000 yards of the horses.  Steve was disappointed in the buck.  The very dim light at dusk made the buck look much bigger than it really was.
Steve, send me a picture of the buck.
